Candy colored homes stacked up next to each other, guards that look like toy soldiers, pastries on every corner that are too good to be true, crammed bicycle parking lots, outdoor cafes with bright blankets to keep toasty at night, fabulous street art, sparkling reflections in every canal, sandy “beach” cafes along the canals, amazing designs everywhere you turn…just some of the treats for the eyes in summer in Copenhagen.
The city is young, fun, vibrant, almost magical! Not even to mention Tivoli…an amazing amusement park in the middle of the city. Or Hans Christian Anderson whose iconic Little Mermaid sits on the edge of Copenhagen harbor and has over 1M visitors a year. Or the never ending nights with street musicians, outdoor dining, and kids hanging out…a summer playground of fun!
This is a city I will never forget and will continue to return. Whatever your fancy, it is a feast for the eyes. And did I mention the people? They are the some of the friendliest and helpful in Europe. When standing outside the subway looking bewildered, someone will always stop and ask if they can help. They not only help, but sometimes walk with you to get you on the right path. Sitting outside in one of the many cafes, inevitably a friendly Dane will spark a conversation or ask if you want your picture taken with your fellow traveler. It is almost too good to be true!
I took lots of photos to try to capture the essence of this beautiful city. Please visit my Instagram site and check them out – @janellohh. I have provided a sampling of images throughout the post to wet your appetitie!
I hope that my photos captured even a little of the vibrancy of this amazing place called Copenhagen! Enjoy.
